(From George Coffin's
book, "Fortune Poker.") This is a seven-card variant of
Spit-in-the-Ocean. Each player has four face-down cards and three
cards are dealt face down to the center. These are exposed one at
a time, with a betting interval after each, and with the last exposed
card and all other cards of the same rank being wild. In the showdown
each player selects any five cards from among his four and the three
on the table.
How to play: It is extremely difficult to establish superior tactics
for this game because the value of a hand changes so drastically
when the final card (which determines the rank of wild cards) is
exposed.
Nonetheless, since there are only four wild cards, hands should
not be valued as highly as at deuces wild (there are seven cards
and everyone has at least one joker). Four-of-a-kind is a solid
value, but anything less cannot be trusted too far. Bear in mind
that a good final card can turn your opponents' potential three-of-a-kind
or full house into a straight flush! (You, of course, would not
stay in the pot on such a slim chance.)
